If a trip to a ski lodge is in the near future, it is time to start thinking about what to pack. Many novice and novice skiers wonder what they should take with them for their skiing holiday. And the packing list may require a trip to an outdoor store. At extreme temperatures, the main goal is to stay warm, dry and safe. And because you consume a lot of energy, you want to stay hydrated and keep your energy level up.
Led to a ski hut? Here is your shopping list:
1. Waterproof clothing. First of all you have to go to a ski hut and the temperatures are more likely than you expect. In addition to the typical items you can think of, such as heavy sweaters, hats and gloves, you should buy items such as waterproof socks in wool blend, waterproof ski jackets, gloves and pants to stay comfortable during long periods of activity on the slopes.
2. Ski socks. Ski socks are waterproof and help keep your feet warm and dry. They also offer extra stuff that you will be grateful for once you tackle the bumps and turns of the ski slope.
3. Neckerchief. A neck cover is a tube that is worn around your neck and can also be rolled over your mouth to protect you from the wind and cold during skiing or snowboarding. It may not be as fashionable as a scarf, but once you are exposed to the cold temperatures, you are glad that you have it.
4. Long underwear. To keep you warm, you want to dress in layers, including long panties or long underwear.
5. Ski equipment. You need poles, boots and skis, but you can rent these items at your destination. However, you may want to buy a ski goggles – which can be useful when it starts snowing – and grab a helmet and stuff for your trip.
6. Snacks. Do not forget that skiing is physically demanding! You want to keep your energy level up to standard by eating healthy snacks. Items such as pretzels, fruit and cereal bars, dried fruit and vegetables and nuts are great options to have on hand.
7. Drink backpack. It is important to stay hydrated while skiing and hydration packages are a good option if you accidentally take a water break. Hydration packs can be worn comfortably on your back and you can drink easily while you are active. Do not forget to refill them during your breaks!
8. Moisturizer. The winter is cold and dry. Pack a moisturizer for your face and body to keep your skin healthy and comfortable. You also want to buy a lip balm with sunscreen to moisten your lips in the right way and protect them from the sun.
9. Sunscreen. The risk of overexposure to the UV radiation from the sun is increased for skiers because of higher altitudes and UV rays that are reflected by the snow. To prevent an increased risk of sun damage and skin cancer, sunscreen should always be used during outdoor activities, even skiing!
10. Hand warmers. Hand warmers are small disposable containers that provide heat on request. They can be activated by air, a solution or on batteries and vary in stand-by for a period of one to ten hours.
